2.9 Wiring Harness

Im in need of a wiring harness bad, I have an 86 2.9 with a 5 speed tranny my question is what year ranger/bronco ll can I get it from? The automatic's will not work right? I just want to be sure before I buy one and try to swap it out.

I have a 2.9 harness from a '90 Ranger 5 speed. Not sure if it will work.

I know the 84 interchanges with the 87/88 or what I've swapped so far. and I am just guessing that most later model 1 st gen obd1 do too.

bronco's fit and there are ton's of them in the JY's need to stay motor specific however. you can use the auto tranny harnesses, BUT you have to make mods down at the tranny 5 pin plug.

When I swapped an 88 ranger engine into my 86 BII, the TPS connector wouldn't plug into the TPS. I noticed different junctions for the injector wires and the B-MAP sensor has a different location. Only 86 & 87 have the EGR & knock sensor. The 88 has an oil level sensor in the side of the pan & my 86 doesn't. I'm guessing you will need to stick with the 86 & 87 years.
