Working on 88 Bronco II has been parked 8 years(?). Replaced fuel tank, pump, high pressure pump, fuel filter, new injectors, pressure regulator, flushed fuel lines, cleaned rail, plugs, wires, cap, rotor,coil,ECM/ECA, everything but pick up in distributor, by passed inertia switch to test. Cranks runs shuts off. Cranks again run only a few seconds cuts off. Third try only turns over. Wait hour or so same thing. I need help.

Welcome to TRS :)

Will it restart if you add fuel manually to the intake, 50/50 test, that will tell you instantly if its a fuel or spark problem

Spray gasoline or Quick Starter(ether) into the intake after a No Start, then crank engine
If it starts and dies you have a fuel issue
If it doesn't fire/start then its a spark issue

i have shot it with starting fluid no go when it cuts off it's just like you turned the key off, wants to stumble before cutting off not shuttering just can feel the miss

only thing i haven't replaced is the pick up in the distributor, didn't won't to pull it but i think that's the nest step? Thanks so much.

Test battery after shut down, leave key on
Then Test coil "+" or TFI for exactly the same voltage as battery, use engine metal as ground

Also if it has a CEL(check engine light) make sure its ON after engine shuts down, key still on, this means computer is on and working

The TFI spark system doesn't need the computer at start up but they do share common 12volts

Yes, if it doesn't start on 50/50 test its a spark or electrical issue not fuel issue

Thanks so much I'll test in the am and update. I really appreciate the advice. This has been a very enjoyable project, really have enjoyed the challenge. This is for my son and it's the only vehicle he has been interested in.

Good little critters with a few quirks. We've kept good track of them here.

Engines is goes vroom.

Checked battery voltage after engine shut off 12.56 volts, negative side of coil 12.5 volts. Same at both places.

Do you know how to pull the codes? Sometimes you may have a code that will point you in the right direction. A code 14, 18 or 19 may indicate a serious problem that would shut the engine off.

Don't have a code reader but have access to one will check Thanks
