Will a 2.9 4x4 5 speed transmission fit on my 4.0(94) 4x4 5 speed?
Thanks

yes it will, I just went through asking the same question about mine.but i was told not to use th FM146 unless itw was freshley rebuilt and free, so u want a m5od-r1.

You don't ever want to put a FM146 behind a 4.0L, even IF it's free & rebuilt (that is unless you don't mind pulling it out again for a M5OD anyway a week later).

A 2.9L M5OD on the other hand, nothing to worry about, except that the gear ratios are a bit different (1st, 2nd & 3rd are deeper, 4th, 5th, & R is same). M5ODs on 2.9L 4x4s are not near as common as the FM146s though.

Yup, that advice about the free and rebuilt FM146 was for 2.9Ls. An FM146 won't last long behind a 4.0L. Not that you'll ever find a free fresh rebuild of anything....

If you can tell the difference between the two, I'd like to know.

The ONLY difference in the transmission itself is the overall length (slave cylinders and sticks are also different).
