Swapping a 1992 4.0 into my 1987 Bronco II. I'm hung up on fuel lines. I do not want to do any cutting or splicing, and I can't use the donor's lines because the fuel filters are in different spots.

Here's my question: are the threads on a 2.9 fuel rail/regulator the same as a 4.0 fuel rail/regulator? I want to put 2.9 lines on my 4.0 so the connectors match and the length fits like factory. Any reason this won't work?

Thanks.

To answer my own question: 2.9 lines going to the fuel rail won't work. Looks like on a 2.9, the fuel lines are not threaded into the fuel rail or the regulator, they are one piece.

Yeah, the 2.9 didn't use threads, it has garter-spring quick connect couplers.

What I did was get it all in place and set up, cut the 4.0 lines from the rail at an appropriate length, and then put new ends on them to make them able to hook into the vehicle's fuel lines.

What does it take to put different fittings in the lines? Boil the lines and press in the fittings?

Where did you find the correct fittings to use?

Thanks for the pointer.
- Joe

I have boiled and pressed, and I have used a tool made for installing fitting in the nylon line. The tool is much nicer, but if you can get two barbs in and clamp it it will hold.

The first time I did this I found the fittings from a parts website, but I don't remember the address. The second time I did it I used fittings salvaged from old fuel lines and a bad FPR.
