2.9 to 2.3

I have a 86 5spd Mitsubishi trans 4x4 with 2.9. My motor is about shot. So I was looking around and found that the 2.3 has a lot of mods you can do. Is this basicly a drop in swap. Just change engine harnesses and exhaust? Maybe bellhousings? Possibly fuel lines?. Would I come out cheaper doing this or rebuilding my motor?

Rebuild would be cheaper, or used 2.9l swap.

When you change engines you also to change the computer, along with the other things you mentioned
