I know this question has been asked multiple times but how do I tell the difference between fuel injector tick and valve tick? My 2.9 sometimes ticks pretty loud when it's cold but quiets down in about 10 seconds. It sounds like it ticks all the time but its not a loud tick when warm. Suggestions?

Fuel injector ticks don't tend to quiet down :)

Valve train ticks do change with oil pressure.

Use a length of Vacuum hose to listen to each fuel injector

Bump what Ron D said.

You can also put your hand on the FPR and open the oil fill cap and stick your ear to it if you want to confirm. Ford's ticking is pretty much like Ford power steering whining. Par for the course; turn up the radio.

The timber of the note is different too, but you've gotta kick a lot of tires on craigslist to learn it.
