Greeting PJ412,
Just joined after seeing your post over on FordPower.co.uk. I'm interested in all things Cologne V6, I've built and run a 2.8L based 3.5L Cologne V6 in my Ford Sierra 4x4 Estate.
I have recently re-worked the heads on my engine and if I can give any advise it would be build yourself a flowbench first as it is a must if you want to extract decent HP from your 2.9.
I built mine along this design.http://dtec.net.au/Flowbench Design Guide.htm
But I just used a set of cheap digital manometers I got of Ebay.
Excellent fun project to make and absolutely invaluable in porting these heads and INLET MANIFOLDS;)

Hello!

Your site has been just as invaluable as TRS for my build.

THANK YOU!!

Also. On it.

Bobby. Rusty.

His avatar says 3.5 cologne.

I think we must know.

@Stroker.... We've never had official word on the 3.5 cologne build. I've been all over trs and the American side, and nothing. Bing and Google make it hard to search UK forums due to ip address. Only found your site by running a VPN and stumbled upon niks site, and the can of worms was opened over here.... I watched one YouTube of video of Geoff Kershaw run the turbo technics 24v, and it was the same as one I saw in Switzerlad in 2009. Realized same block, so just build the American bastard child of it. Then, I descended into madness:

Digging through your threads got me this far.

I mean it when I say thank you. 🙏🏿

fordpower.co.uk isn't my site at all. I just visit it and saw your post you left.
There's nothing special with a 3.5 cologne they just use the 4.0 crank. I built mine in 2014 and have been involved with a few other 3.5L builds including a 2.9/3.5 cologne over the years.

You don't say.....

I just so happen to have a 4.0.

It too has a crank.

Use a 4.0 rod?

Interesting. I had considered the Chrysler piston because if similar bore. Can't remember their comp. height atm. I think they need to be shaved, correct?

Trying something new with my build. Using 5.8 Trinity pistons and looks like a 302 rod.

Tracked down a set of the forged trinity pistons on ebay, motor threw a rod at 2k mi. With same bore as 2.9 when over bored to 93.5mm, they're drop in dish tops for bore. Compression height is 1.222, so need to figure out rod length. I think ford 302 is correct, but want to see when they get here.

Have scoured for a drop in combo, but couldn't find pistons anywhere that would ship to the USA. Was working with machine shops on alibaba to get a run made before I rolled the dice on this.

Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep same piston, 1.252" compression height and I had to remove 0.032-0.035" off the block deck height to have the pistons flush with top of the bore. Isn't the 302 rods 0.050" shorter than the 2.8 rods?
The Jeep pistons I used wouldn't be any good for a boosted engine, compression would be too high and they have a weak top land.
A friend over here on his 2.9/3.5 used custom pistons with modified Ford 5.4" rods.

5.4 on 2.9 crank?
