I'm having a problem with the 2.9 in my ranger where it stutters. I have been having this problem for a couple days now and it will do it if it is cold or hot. The engine will never actually stall but it will act like it is going to. I tried unplugging the 02 sensor but it was the same either way. I wanted to get other peoples opinion before i start replacing parts. Any thoughts on what might be wrong would be greatly appreciated.

I tried starting it this morning but all it did was turn over and it would not fire. After a minute it fired but it was running worse then ever and it keep stalling.

Check the basics first. Plugs, wires, coil, fuel filter, air filter and look for any cracked or disconnected vacuum lines.

I replaced the cap and rotor and now it seems to be running fine.
