hey guys i'm completely stumped on my problem. My 2.9 runs rough and has a dead miss in the #6 cylinder. i have changed the cap rotor spark plugs and wires the idle air control the tps sensor and the ignition module but the miss will not go away and i'm getting really discouraged. does anyone have any ideas? could it be that my timing is off?

Remove the "pill" inline that goes to the distributor. Does it still do it then?

If not, I would check timing because without the pill installed, it pulls back or advances the timing, I forget which way. After that I would check compression in that cyl and maybe others. It could be a crack in the head or blown head gasket. You would have a lot more problems than just a misfire if that was the case.

I think you mean the SPOUT connector.

Have you changed or tested the coil associated with the cylinder thats missing yet ?

the fuel injector for that cylinder seems to be flooding the spark plug and just dumping gas there. i put a fuel pressure tester on and turned the key. the pressure was great until the pump stopped. then it dropped to 10 psi. tomorrow i am changing the injector and I'll let y'all know if it fixed it. i don't think the gasket is blown or the head cracked because the anti freeze isn't mixing with oil and the coolant isn't pressurizing. i can't isolate the coil for that cylinder because it only has one.

well changed the injector with a set from a 92 ranger but i can't seem to get them to seat lol. Autozone and advance auto said that they are the same injector but i"m beginning to wonder. they were the same length though
any thoughts?

It's a distributor engine Duane. Only has the one, he's replaced everything.

Compression check is next on your list.

The 92 injectors are the same. Get some PAG oil (it's for A/C systems) and put some in a spray can cap. Then dip each end of the injector in it, with fresh o-ring installed, and put them in the rail. Then position the rail into the intake and push firmly. Don't use engine oil or spray lubricants because they will swell the rubber. Don't install them dry because you will cut at least one.

What year truck is this in? Just wondering since neither truck you listed should have a 2.9.

Are you lubing the O-rings up with a dab of vasoline before your installing the injectors ? Are you sure your seating them fully ?
Once they are seated do not twist them around either. Try to seat them with the plug in the correct position requiring the least amount of adjustment possible.
Those O-rings can tear easily if you don't lube them properly before installing.
