I just put an engine from an 89 ranger into an 87. there was no egr on the 89 so I also changed the computer. Now.. no spark. Checked and rechecked the timing. Suspect coil. Any other ideas?

Suspect TFI module.

Since you have two engines I suspect you have two modules as well, swap them and try again.

No more computers, used the 87 as a core for the 89 computer. going to do a little more troubleshooting this morning/afternoon. thanks for the reply, i'll let you know.

T F got-danged I module.

The little gray sucker bolted to the back of the distributor.

Problem solved! Replaced coil as it appeared to be original (figured it couldn't hurt) and had plenty of spark..... still didn't start.

Checked the fuel and it smelled funny. Drained fuel into a clean white bucket and it looked like orange gatorade (just like it). So fresh fuel and it started to fire, but I ran out of daylight.

ran out of daylight so it stopped running? i would suspect the rear solar panels... ;)

welcome to the site, glad you got it running, hope you stick around!

I'm gonna say this truck sat for quite some time huh ?
