Hey guys, havent been on here for quite some time as i retired the ol B2 for a while but i pulled it back out now for some fun. It ran great when i pulled it out and never missed a beat while it was cooler spring weather, well anyways ill give you some back ground info on the truck... it is an 86 bronco 2 2.9,for now, the truck ran great as earlier posted and then when the temps started getting hotter everything went way down the drain.. first it was the fan, but thats a long story in itself and its now electric. i will stop listing problems now as they dont really relate to my issues.

Ok when i first pulled it out it idled rough and high, so i cleaned the iac and sea foamed it, all was good for a while, i scanned it and got a code-18>no tach signal, so i changed the tfi and all was good and clear on the scan tool(not cheap wall mart type, profesional scan tool from the shop) and it ran GREAT...till this issue

ok here is my current issue. The truck runs great when its cooler out or when i first run it but when it runs for about an hour and temps under the hood start to rise the truck will start to stumble on acceleration and idle really rich. if i feather the throttle i can save it most of the time. if i push in the clutch(standard) and rev it it takes a few seconds but it smoths out and revs fine, its only when there is a load on it. \also when this is happening if i floor it it sounds like its missing either spark or fuel

I have tested vaccum and its a steady 14-16 needle sweep and very consistant so thats good, also no fuel in fpr

Well as i dont have alot of spare time i am hoping some of you can help me and save me some testing, sorry this post is so long too. Thank you all in advance as you havent let me down yet.
If anymore info is needed just ask

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter??

wouldn't completely rule out a faulty TFI (yes even out of the box)...have it checked.

what kind of fuel pressure do you have?

tfi=good
fuel filter= couple months before if was parked
fuel pressure. was good before but need a new tester because i broke mine.

update- its getting worse. does it at idle now and i have to feather it out and keep it running. feels like only a couple cylinders firing. its also starting to do it when i let it idle for a few minutes such as a drive through.

my 2.9l 5spd '86 ranger has a similar problem
it misses while idling, and if i use any thing more then 25% throttle in 2nd-4th gear, it bucks and jerks terribly. so i slapped a fuel pressure gauge on it, my fuel pressure goes from 40 psi, down below 20 psi wen i accelerate. im leaning twords the inline pump. im buying a new one this week and well see wut happens. maybe this is your problem as well

Wow. I have the same problem its like someone hooked up a shutoff switch to my throttle all i have to do to shut down the engine is push the gas pedal half way down... Im still hoping it is the fuel filter gonna replace it tomorrow, it wouldnt hurt.

i thought about that as well, that the filter could simply be clogged.
im gunna take the expensive risk and just slap a new pump on there.
Syko, lemme know if changin the filter fixes anything, cuz i havnt bought the pump yet. and if you have good results ill just grab a new filter
thanks in advance!!

ok fuel issues are out.

pressures are as follows,
42 psi key on engine off
34 psi at idle
does a sweep from 34 at adle to 43 at WOT
If i undo the vacuum line from the FPR then it goes to a steady 43 PSI so that tells me the pumps are doing there jobs.

so i think either later tonight or tommorrow there will be some more tests ran

I replaced the fuel filter today and it solved my problem.. except now i have a fuel leak lol should be an easy fix... the old filter weighed about 3 times heavier then the new one it was so full of crap, i was surprised how much rust was in there the gas that came out was red.. I hope your problem is solved with just a filter

Later,
Syko

k cool thanks syko
ill get one tommorow and see how it goes
thanks alot!

FIXED- what i did- put a new battery in! voltages tested out fine but i did a load test on it and it failed. changed the batter because i got pissed off when it wouldnt start today and all is good. It could have simply been the fact it was screwed or just undoing the battery terminal for a while just reet the computer.

nope. went through the whole truck and checked grounds, changed cables and clamps with no help but the bat did the trick

woahhhh
ur problem was fixed by a new battery???

to me that doesnt explain why your truck would over heat or stumble on acceleration.
dont get me wrong, im glad to hear your truck is better, but im just tying to figure out why a battery solved it
