I was eventually planning on puttin headers on my 2.9 ranger. I am deffinetly not spending the money on jba's. I was wondering what is wrong with the pacesetters that everyone keeps talkin bad on them. If its clearance issues please tell me where at cuz ill just cut them and reweld it up to clear.

I have no expierience with them on the 2.9, but I bought one for my Toyota pickup awhile back and it was designed poorly. The O2 sensor port was right in front of the steering coloum so it was impossible to install the sensor. And the joint that connected the 4 tubes to the single never sealed right. Always leaked. I think I spent more money trying to seal that than what i spent on the header. Oh and the black paint didnt even last a week and rusted up shortly after that.

Needless to say I won't buy from them again.

pacesetters are junk. If you want headers that are poorly welded and of extremely poor quality, Pacesetter is right up your alley. I put a pair on my buddy's F150... they were terrible. They bolted right up, but they literally took scrap metal to weld their terrible gaps from the first welds of the tubes.

Whoever is praising Pacesetter, knows nothing about the automotive world. headers won't do much for that engine anyways... unless you have some other work worth investing in headers already done such as porting, shaved heads, or a stroker kit. And yes, there is a stroker kit if I recall. It takes your 2.9 and makes it a 3.5. They claim a 50 hp increase... THEN i'd throw headers on it.

Agreed.

Your stock manifolds are fine. Replace the cat with a high flow and get a better muffler. You'll be good to go.

People have problems if they have a column shift.

I installed a set with a floor shift.

Problem points I ran into was the passenger side header was right up against the oil filter adapter on the side of the block. I resolved this by wrapping the section in header wrap.

y-pipe was a PITA to get on the slip fits, the slip fits are a shitty design IMO.

Once I got it all together, the end of the y-pipe to the cat was up against my frame and radius arm thread that attaches it to the cross member. I resolved by modifying them.

I had an A4LD, and the y-pipe was extremely close to the pan. I don't know if I would be able to get the pan off with the headers installed. Wouldn't be so bad if you could easily separate the y-pipe from the headers, but those slip fits make it that much more of a pain.

Not worth it..

I installed Pacesetters (coated) in '04, and mine look new (100K mi), sound and perform great, and I have never had a minutes problem.

I have a 5 speed, and fit was excellent.

Not sure what problems others are having, but they are as good as any header I've ever installed, and better than most.

So, take it for what its worth.

The problems most have is that they buy some that were made for something else. There are a lot of variables. 2wd or 4wd, h pipe or y pipe, different transmissions, etc.

Every one that I know that has bought headers from JBA has liked em. But like Disciplerocks said, there are alot of variables, I guess another reasen to make sure your buying the right ones.
