Please help!!!
i've got a cracked head in my 2.9... go figure.... i dont want to risk replacing the heads only to find out that i've trashed the bottom end (oil is pretty milky), so i found myself a replacement 2.9... question is, will a newer style(89-92) 2.9 work just fine? i know it will bolt right in, but is the harness the same as in my '88? thanks!

Maybe. The 2.9 didn't change a lot, but the 88 was a split year. About half had EGR, half didn't. Almost none after 88 had EGR. Also, some of the 90s 2.9s were MAF equipped, most weren't. Those will all effect if the later engine will plug right in.

Now, you can swap things around, mostly the intake manifolds, if needed, to make the later engine work right with your harness and computer.

No problem. Basically your best bet to get it all right is to pull your messed up engine, yank all the sensors and the intakes and put them on the new one.
