2.9 engine miss?

Will double check again. doesn't hurt. Spray with wd-40 and listen for changes, right?? better make sure I am doing this right...

use ether. WD-40 is more of a lubercant than anything else. where as ether is highly flamable so it would work better.

Will do. now where did I put my fire extinguisher.....? Thanks again. Got a list to work through tomorrow.

ha ha good idea. also try moving the vacum lines around while looking for leaks, that should help expose any hidden leaks.

and around the lower intake to see if I messed up the install?

yeah why not, cant hurt to check. and if you find something your that much closer to getting it working right.

Yet another update...I am going to have to condense this when I finally figure out whats wrong......

I practically dunked the engine in ether and CANNOT find a vacuum leak. Retested the compression with WOT (I had not done that before). Cranked for 8 revolutions and got 90-100 pounds on the first revolution building to 160 lbs on the 8th. Every cylinder was the same. Still running the same. Smells like ot is running rich. Tested the TPS again and was getting 5.25 V at idle. WAY OFF. 2 different TPS's measured this. If BOTH TPS's are bad (I have had normal readings on them until now), would that send the truck into limp mode, thereby running rich, idling bad and not allowing me to accelerate without pinging?

please correct me if im wrong but doesnt the TPS have 3 wires of wich 1 is ground, 1 is a refrence voltage of 5 volts , and the last is the out put to the computer or the signal wire. if so are you sure you checked the right wires? sorry if im wrong.

There is always the chance I screwed something up. I thought I always used the middle wire, but this is what I was getting: top wire was reading ~.25 V; middle wire was reading the 5.25 V; bottom wire was reading 0.0 V. Was the same for 2 different TPS's. Unhooked the first one and no change to the engine. Idling ok in the sense it wasn't dying. Plugged in second TPS...same readings but engine started running worse and wanting to die. Once again, I have gotten normal readings before from these TPS's, but maybe I went cuckoo this time around?

What would cause it to idle worse when the SPOUT is connected?

not sure what the "spout" is. on the TPS the top tire or the one that is at .25V at idle if you open the throttle will the reading change? if so then it is your signal wire, and i belive it should go up to around 5 volts at WOT

SPOUT is the spark output wire. Supposed to unplug it when timing to get a base time. Has something to do with the timing advance. Of course I wasn't smart enough to increase the throttle while testing. Damn rain....... Will check tomorrow, but I am second guessing which wire I have tested before. May have been the top one. Either way, not getting the ~.98 I am shooting for.

the SPOUT wire is the yellow one coming out of the TFI and heads towards ...?????

i see. sounds like something to do with the advance thats causing the pinging. could be that that new computer is set up for more of an advance VS the old one, or what ever inside the dizy actualy advances the timing is messed up.
