Ok i want to put a block header in my 2.9 but i cant find one that says it is made for my 2.9. I have found a few at napa that seem like they would work for around $35.00. Iam doing this because my engine sounds like it has hammers in it when i start it on cold winter days. The engine was rebuilt about two years back.cause of my dum #%*?.

The Napa auto part #KAT 11426 is what you're looking for. I put one in my '88 Ranger (with the 2.9l engine from an '87 B2) a couple months ago, and it works great. It appears identical to the one shown in the factory service manual.

You'll have to take the power steering pump bracket off of the engine, and remove the freeze plug from the front of the left (driver's side) head. The heater fits right in there. Just make sure you get all the air out of your cooling system before you plug in the heater.
