on top of the air box for a 87 ranger, 2.9, there are two vaccuum lines connected to some sort of sensor.. is that a temperature sensor, and what affect does this sensor have on the rest of the engine..

and the two vacuum lines that connect to this sensor, where do they go, and what do they control, from the sensor, on the air box..

yes it is a temperature sensor, it reads the air comming in and if it is too cold it sends the vacuum to a flapper valve in the intake tube and closes it. This makes your motor suck air from a different intake tube that sucks air directly off of your exhaust manifold giving the engine warm air to help the warm up process.

the vacuum line comes in from the pass side of the intake then to the filter housing, then it travels down to the intake tube on the passenger side inner fender.

I removed mine (plugged the vacuum line) and it starts on cold mornings just fine lol
