Your '88 EEC will work fine with later model A4LD.
Same length so '88 drive shaft will fit
2.9l and 4.0l used the same base engine block so trans bolt holes are the same.

As redhurricane said, plug and play, just some wrench work

thanks

Can i use my 2.9 l flywheel and converter with the 4.0l a4ld i didnt get them of the 91 cause someone had welded them together

Yes, torque converter is for the 2.9l power curve and A4LD trans so that is actually what you should do.

And you want to use the 2.9l flexplate so there are no starter motor line up issues on the ring gear

Just FYI
Flexplate is what is used for automatics.
Flywheel is for manual transmissions
They are in the same position but are quite different.

Wont fit

The 2.9 tourque converter wont fit input shaft of 4.0 transmission wont make the second click to go on far enough. Any ideas why it wont?

wish i knew why it wont go on wonder why in the 4.0 they had flexplate and tourque converter welded together

Did the 4.0l trans work?

Or was it just said to work, i.e."it worked before I parked it"

dunno was one them u pull it places i can take it back and get money back any ideas what could be wrong with it

Well with the torque converter welded to the flexplate...............could be there were other steps taken that were not technically Factory protocol :)

I would take it back and take 2.9l torque converter with you, if they have another A4LD even if it's bell housing doesn't match your 2.9l see if the torque converter slides all the way in, just to confirm it is that one transmission that is the problem.

I found a a4ld thats in a 4wheel drive. Can i pull the transfer case off the tail end. And put my tail piece on it?

I would leave the transfer case and drive it as is. It would make a great unit for towing heavy stuff a short distance (like the size of your yard distance).

Sent from my XT1032

No, on the A4LD, and most automatics, the transmission must be disassembled to change tail shaft housings from 4WD to 2WD or visa versa
