I have a 1984 bronco ii with the same stock 2.8L engine. I was looking to find cheap performance upgrades aside from doing a 4.0L or V8 swap. It looks like headers, a new carb, engine rebuild, and an offenhauser intake manifold might be the cheapest way to go. I was wondering if anyone has done this type of an upgrade? If so what was the overall cost and were you happy with the performance.

The overall cost is more then its worth... with headers new carb and the intake your looking at maybe 10HP gain max... and altleast 1000 dollars if not more...

You can do a gear swap and a Duraspark ignition for probably around the same amount if you had a shop do it and get better results.

I vote gear swap or 4.0 swap, only things worthwhile IMO

I AM a 2.8 hater tho...:D

4.0 swap can easily be done for less than 1K. I spent ~200 on a donor vehicle and ~75 on a M5OD. :icon_thumby:

Once you go 4-Oh, you dont go back!
