This may seem to some a stupid idea but I just cant get rid of my gutless 85 Bronco. i purchased a 88 Ranger for its engine...I was told the intake manifold would swap...I want the 2.9 in my bronc but I dont want the hassle of wireing to accomodate the Injection. If no on the manifold then how difficult would the wireing be to use the electronic injection?
any answers out there???

The intake and exhaust ports are WAY different on both engines. The crank is also different because the 2.9 runs on a chain and the 2.8 runs with gears.

That's the short of it. I don't know about everything else, but those are the absolute MAJOR things that can't be changed.

Yeah but they are also on the heads and intake manifold not the engine itself. also the chain vs gears its part of the cam and crank difference. so if its not a short block/long block and just a bare block I would say they are the same.

Right, but I'm sure some idiot out there is going to swap manifolds and not think about the heads.

Also, if you change camshaft, be sure to use the right setup. Don't just put a 2.9 cam in a 2.8 block with the gears still on it.

Block to block differences... I have not a clue. I don't strip 'em to check that much out. I like to keep 2.8 stuff with 2.8 engines.
