2.8 rear main oil seal replacement?

That is another animal you might be able to raise the engine enough to pull the pan and rear main cap and put a two piece seal in or drop the front end but however you do it put a new high volume oil pump in it. are you sure it is the rear main did you have a new O ring on the dizzy when you put it in. was it real tight to install it

Howdy 84. You are aware of a failing pcv causing excessive pressure in the crankcase and PUSHING oil out the rear seal...aren't you? I always replace the pcv before thinking of working on that seal. In the event of a little too much blowby I have hooked the valve cover directly to vacuum without a pcv and had good luck with the oil leak.

thanks im just trying to figure out where to hook my pcv valve up at. my motocraft 2100 didnt have a spot at the base like the old feed back one. any tips on where to hook it up?

Yep! Anywhere you can cut a vac hose and put a "T" in will be ok! In particular one on the carb is best but anywhere will work.

the rear main is still leaking after i replaced the pcv. so i m running some bars leak to see if that helps. if not i have a friend to help me replace it.

The rear main seal on my 1983 2.8 is a one piece unit and you must remove the tranny, clutch and flywheel to get to it. I would presume all Ranger 2.8's are the same. Notice, I did say "presume". But mine is difinitely one piece.

I wasn`t sure wether there was a two piece seal. I had a dodge 360 and put a two piece seal in but the parts guy gave me a ford 360 seal it seemed to fit ok not knowing and when I started it it made a spinning noise and proceeded to drain the pan on the garage floor of my brothers new house his wife was pissed.
