Hello all,
Im new to The Ranger Station
Just a few questions here:

I have a 1994 4.0 4x4 auto ranger. I since replaced the radiator in the truck I recently purchased (private party mind you :icon_confused:) After checking the coolant level, and realizing my trucks being cooled by tranny fluid and the tranny being lubricated by coolant, I since went to replace the radiator. (The radiator has a transmission cooler in it) Then after that, I then noticed my transmission was slipping. Long story short, I now barely have 1st and 2nd gear. No reverse, nothing. I'm unsure if it is the tranny or the transfer case. I have 3 rangers now, this one the only auto :annoyed: Tranny or transfer case or both?

I need back on the road A.S.A.P :bawling: A friend of mine has a 1985 2.8 2x4 manual. Will this bolt up without searous mods? (other wise simple wiring and cutting a hole in the floor) I was reading in other threads and by the sounds of it, it should bolt to the engine as well as to the transfer case. Do you think this is going to be worth while, or possibly ending in many curse words and head scratching?

Thanks for your time!

welcome to TRS!!
you're right, it should bolt right up to your motor. however, you will need to deal with such things as slave cylinders, linkage, floor opening, and perhaps tail shaft issues. search here in this forum for threads about this swap. also check this out in the Tech Library on this site:

i always prefer a manual to an auto tranny. so many fewer potential problems with a manual makes it more than worth the effort to do the swap... imho.

4x4 and 2x4 trans tailshafts are different, so unless you are gonna use a different driveshaft and ditch your t-case, then it wont work
