The rest of the parts painted.

The rest of the parts arrive today:yahoo: but my brother in law needs help with sighting his bow in so thats todays job.:annoyed:

More to come later.:icon_thumby:

Motor is looking good, all cleaned up n such. I like the flat black.

I highly recommend replacing the valve seals, every 2.8 I have had smoked like a son of a.

Although, I have to ask.....why a 2.8 and not a 2.9 or 4.0??

The 2.8 was free, plus the TBI system was also given to me. I have the valve seals but not going to replace them right now...this motor was in my dads truck and when it ran it didnt smoke or use oil and it hasnt even sat that long, I think 5 months now, so I should be fine. I know it will smoke a bit when first started a ran until the seals get warmed back up and such.

Just waiting for the rubber valve cover gaskets and high volume oil pump to arrive, then I can really dig in.

Thx for the comments.

I have more pictures.

If you have them... change them now. #3 is a PITA to do with the engine in the truck. Oil leaks into the cylinders when they sit, so they smoke shortly after startup as the burn the residual oil out of the engine.

I would be tempted to put new gaskets on the lower radiator housing(s) too, they are also a real treat to work on with the engine in the truck.

I just did all that crap late last winter to mine, kept me busy for awhile.

The 2.8 is a good engine, if I could find another I would happily plop it in. :icon_thumby:

Thx for the advice on the lower radiator housing gskets but I'm one step ahead. They were replaced last winter when we changed the thermostat in the truck along with the top radiator hose housing gasket too.

I dont have the time to put them in now I have a busy shedule for awhile and have to get the motor in my truck ASAP.

Yetserday my brother in-law called me saying that he was given a D30 and a couple of other jeep axles. Well he heard that I wanted to do a SAS and is giving me the D30, I dont know if its a HP or LP but I will find that out saturday evening. So I will be doing a SAS swap on my truck in the future.

Its like the truck gods are looking down on me!!!!!

Good deal... be forewarned though, after the gods smile on you they usually demand a sacrifice...:icon_twisted:

Why the high volume pump?

Why not a HV pump. Put one in my dads truck and it runs much smoother a quieter. Plus I got $20 dollars off of it too.

Well heres todays progress and probably all I'll I am able to get done...other stuff needs done around the house plus need my dads help adjusting the lifters and I am swamped this weekend with other stuff to do. Well might take the valve covers off today to paint them.

I know the paint job isnt perfect but I'm the only person going to be changing the oil and painting is for self satifaction plus I'm tired of looking at gray....if you KNEW me you understand why.

If i were u i would replace the mechanical fuel pump while you out. It is a pain in the ass to replace with the engine in. Just piece of mind.

Read the title of my thread carefully...I'm putting a TBI or Throttle Body Injection system on it. The manual fuel pump hole will have a plate put over it. My truck currently has a 87 FI 4 banger under the hood with 110,XXX miles (soon to be for sale when my other motor is running). Fuel system is already set up for my TBI I'm putting on.

But ya it is a PITA to change when the motor is in the truck. My dads is leaking oil around it and we have to take it off to put a new gasket on it.

Well got more done today then I though. Almost ready to drop in.
