hey all i am not sure if what i am about to ask has been posted before cause i haven't been here in a long time. regarding the fuel pump required for this seems to be calling for one from a ranger. but what about a later model bronco II that has the fuel injected engines like the 2.9 v6? i am thinking of doing the conversion and was wondering for simplicity one from a fuel injected bronco II would already have the properly bent fuel lines and such that would pretty much be a bolt on for my 84 bronco II. right now i am trying to aquire all of the parts first then test each fuel injection part to make sure they work.

are you injecting a 2.8l?

As per the tech writeup you can use the lines and the tank from the 2.9. you would just have to mate the 2.9 line to the 3.8 line. you could pm dangerranger83, he has done 2 fuel injection conversions and seems to be very knowledgeable about the swap.

"You should get the steel lines from the 3.8 and a 2.9 Ranger FI tank and ALL lines, wiring and pumps, these need to be installed into your Bronco II or Ranger, it's really not that complicated. How you mate the 3.8 lines to the 2.9 lines is up to you"

That was taken directly from the tech write up right here at TRS

Also keep in mind that the 1st gen 2.9s had a low pressure lift pump in the tank that won't produce enough pressure for the FI system. In fact I'm pretty sure its the same pump the 2.8s used.

They also have a HP pump on the frame that produces the pressure needed to run the FI system. If you get a 2.9 tank and sender and an explorer PUMP the pump itself can be mounted on the 2.9 sender to produce the higher pressures needed.

So would u still have to use high pressure line or could u just throw the same fuel pump in where the second one is. Or could u throw in the fuel pump and replace all the pipe after that with high pressure?

my high pressure pump is a universal one i bought from summitracing, and is 24" of fuel line away from the tank. I used low pressure 3/8" hose up to it. And high pressure rubber 3/8" hose after. I got it all from autozone. also i put a brass "T" in the hose a few inches before the fuel pump (between the tank and pump) and ran my return line right to there rather than all the way back to the tank and i would have had to make a bung in the tank to attatch the return line. and btw there is no "lift pump" in a 2.8's fuel tank (at lease not in my 1985's) so i moved my pickup to the bottom of the tank with a steel fitting and my welder.

Swapping in the whole fuel line, tank and pumps from the second gen B2 would prolly just be the easiest was to go.

LP hose should be ok up to the second pump. After that second pump you will need the HP line though.

if available that is the way to go.

yes i am thinking of fuel injecting my 2.8l. i read the post of the person who did the write up and found it very informative so it dawned on me about the last few years of the bronco II that were fuel injected and was wondering if the stock fuel injection lines, pumps, and such would be sufficient for this 3.8l fuel injection so i thought i'd ask and do the research first.

stock 2.9 injection components should be more than enough.

The 3.8L TBI system is still a wet intake, and I think it needs less pressure. I'm sure it won't even need full 3.8L pressure to run a 2.8.

i am not fully aware in the case of the 3.8 tbi (as i am running a different efi on mine) but most gm tbi's run at less than 20psi

I thought i read somewhere that the pressure needs to be at 44psi
