hey guys, every once in a while someone here mentions 2.8 exhuast then mentions 2.8 (?) minivan exhuast bolt ons... I was wondering what they are talking about... can newer exhuast manifolds from newer/different vehicles bolt up and work with 2.8 heads? if so what ones? and do these cheap mods work as good as a set of headers? reason for asking is that I am throwing around the idea of building my own custom headers for my pinto build. but if I can get a set of exhuast mans that will bolt up and do the general same thing why bother building a set.

thanks

Ford Aerostars that have the 2.8 in them have headers, not cast manifolds.

Hi danger, thanks for the heads up on that. what years? would you happen to know? I just searched my favourite pick-a-part and they have 15 Aerostars, but nothing below 3.0L thanks

search through the all the ranger/bronco II forums for a used set of edelbrock headers. I sold a set awhile back, with y-pipe, for around $75 (can't remember the exact amount, its been awhile.) i've seen others for around $50 since then

Late 1983-1985 were the years the 2.8 liter engines were used (in RBV that is). So I would look for an Aerostar in those years.

hey all, does anyone have a set of these exhaust manifolds and they can take a pic of them and post them so I can get a look at these things?? you think i can find a old Aerostar in my area with a 2.8??? arrrhg who said build cars was easy..... maybe easy when you can get the parts....

cheers..... thanks

Bump Bump.... come on guys, someone must have this setup if it works as you all say it will. please post me up a picture or two, really need to see what it looks like and I can get a good feel of the set up so I will know if this will work in my pinto build.

Thanks

I have a set out of a 86 aerostar, I run a set on my 84 bronco II with a rebuilt 78 2.8 engine. There in nice condition, I could dig them out and if you want em how's 75.00 plus ship. Email me at itandbt@shaw.ca and I can send you pictures. I also run the serpentine belt out of the aerostar too with a 2150 and duraspark and the turbo coupe oil cooler, daily driver for quite a few years now.

I'm in Richmond BC so your just around the corner !

Just like putting lipstick on a pig! Might be more colorful, but it is still the same old pig!

ok jim, what you mean by that? do these things actualy work as a header or am I wasting my time with the whole thing on an older motor and not going into a ranger? plan is to see if these will work, then glass packs, then side pipes (exit tips just before back wheels) on a dual exhuast set up. not into spending major coin on this project if cheap and will work is the same thing.

thanks

Can you post a picture of the serpetine belt set-up, I didnt know you could put such a set-up on a 2.8. What year or aerostar did you get it off of?

Hey danger, "2.8 is great" emailed me a couple pics of his set up. Looks sharp. I have them posted in my photobucket for he said he isn't good with pics on forums/internet. here are the links of his belt set up. hopefully he will come back in here and answer any Q's you might have.

cheers

this is what he sent me. "Hi, here's some shots of the engine serpentine off a 86 aerostar. I'm no good at posting on web sites so your free to put em up if you like, you can see the upper thermostat housing too, the header paint is about 4 years old and is starting to look a bit crappy. I'm also running a internal voltage regulated altenator, stock 86 specific aerostar."
