Ive got 203,000 miles on my current 99 2.5l engine. I realise these engines with proper maintenence will live up too 300,000. Im trying too decide which is cheaper/better. Too rebuild my current engine with higher performance internals or just get a reman engine from jasper or oreillys.

rebuild your engine . you now what you got thin

You want: "cheaper/better. Too rebuild my current engine with higher performance internals or just get a reman engine from jasper or oreillys."

Cheaper or better ... or cheaper & better .. a re-man is not going to be cheap. It will be built to a spec, and will likely use non-OEM parts, FWIW.
If you 'do your own thing', you'll know what parts are used, and can tune their selection to meet what you want. A re-man will be 'get a number 265-1 off the shelf, Bob, and ship it to Moline...' No tuning there...
A re-man is quick to do, and generally directed at a shop or someone needing their vehicle on the road tomorrow. I got a re-man short block 260 (ha!) because the parts cost and gasket set would have put me doing the job within $50 of someone else doing the job. They, of course, didn't have a 260, but conveniently had a 289 at no extra cost, but that's anther tale. BTW, it worked well and is still on the road as of 20 years later.

If you want any performance upgrade, do it yourself. If all you want is drop in and go, a reman I your best option. You can reman a 2.5 back to stock for about $1000 using some better than stock parts as long as you do the assembly yourself. If I'm not mistaken most remans at the least will cost you 2500. You can build a mean 2.3 for about $2000 then buy a quarter horse tuner and software for $350. That's the route I would go I I had the money (I already have the tuner, just need the money for a good rebuild)

Yes, it all comes down to the money, money, money...forget about the price tag...and no worries...

If you're worried about the cost then you probably should look around for a low mileage replacement...maybe even the whole truck can be bought for less than rebuilding a performance engine...or even a 4.0 engine in a newer truck would be an even better option.
