Hey all,
I have an 89 Ranger with a 2.3L that is running rough to say the least, i want to know if i can swap a 2.5L from a 99 contour SVT into it with ease or if it is even possible anythimg helps???

Anything is possible. For that engine you're looking at a major pain in the arse wiring swap. You'll have to be resoursful in your choice of a transmission. That and it's so wide it might not clear the ranger's steering.

A 5.0L would probably be easier and cheaper, as would a 4.0 or 2.3 turbo. All of which have more power / torque than the duratech 2.5.

But you'd definately have the "different" factor going for you.

Only issue I see besides the obvious issues with fitment are this v-6 will be lacking in torque and you'll have to twist it really high to get anything done in a truck.

The biggest problem is that it is a front wheel drive setup and the ranger is rear wheel drive. I can't think of any rear wheel drive transmissions that will bolt to that motor. That and the intake would be pointing to the rear of the truck.

For those that are wondering about this somewhat obscure motor:

It came in the SVT contours. It is a 2.5L DOHC 24 valve V6. Something like 210 HP and 190 ft-lbs torque. They were pretty fast little cars. Top speed of 147 mph or something like that with 0-60 times of about 6 seconds. Having driven one, I must say they are a blast to drive.

However, putting that engine in a ranger will be a ton of work.

you should look at the Locost forums, alot of guys are using that engine in a front engine configuration, usally with a T5 tranny. the bellhousing seems to be the issue but there is one out there for $450, you have to use the hydrolic clutch from a ranger as well. So it's been done alot.
