Hey guys, I had a quick question. Real world, how much better will a '98 2wd 2.5L AUTO be on gas than my current '98 4x4 3.0 MANUAL? I drive about 2600 miles per month, and would like to get better mileage. I am not ready to give up a bed, and have LOVED my ranger.

So I'm just wondering, between those two trucks will there be much of a difference? I don't know what the gears are in the 2.5; mine has 3.73s. I'm not looking to be convinced one way or the other, or to be told that I should look at something totally different. Just as objective as you can be, how much of a difference is there?

Maybe 2-4 mpg if that. Look around for a 2wd stick 2.3 or 2.5 and you'll be looking at a much larger improvement.

I feel your pain on the gas thing, I drive my company truck about 3000 miles a month and spend about $150 in gas a week. Good thing the company pays for that too.

When you're driving that much even 1mpg turns into almost ten bucks a week.

Thanks guys. Keep the opinions coming!

Yeah, my miles are all personal, so really saving ANYTHING would be great. I'm just trying to get a real-world feel.

my brother has a 00 3.0 manual 2wd, and i notice the difference with my 99 2.5 manual.
now if u really want to save gas go for a 01+ 2.3 with 5spd
that thing really saves gas, and has more power than the old 2.3/2.5 lima.
it doesnt has the truck engine "sound" and "feeling" tho
