well the swap is done and she started first shot ticked like a bitch for awhile but its good now my only issue is my rpm it cant decide to idle normal really low(350rpm) or high(2500rpm) if i shut it off then start it again the rpm is normal untill i hit the gas or start driving it almost stalls when i come to a stop too any ideas?????

did you use the original 2.3 intake manifold and TB and all the electronics? Is everything sealed up with no air leaks?

yes yes yes and yes its all the 2.3 stuff drove it all day today and its still doing it but just the low rpm now right when i stop but other than that shes great it almost like having a new truck all over again

just exactly what are the differences in Tbody and upper intake between 97 98

there is a coolant tube running in to it and the throttle cable hook up is different other than that they are the same

If everything is hooked up correctly and there are no air leaks anywhere then try giving it a couple hundred miles and see if it smooths out. You can always try pulling the IAC valve and cleaning up, seeing as that is what controls your idle.

I had a really bad misfiring problem when I first did the swap on mine. It was driving me crazy. It's still there every so often but it only happens right after I start it up and even then it's not all the time. I think I may need plugs and wires again though.

I'm wondering if the different stroke of the crank is causing the PCM to have problems adjusting or something. I used the 2.5 fuel injectors in the 2.3 intake too. Thinking of maybe swapping back. Do you know if the fuel injectors are larger in the 2.5?

Maybe the 2.5 computer is necessary?

They'd be the same injectors. 2.3 Limas used 14 pounders. You'll know which ones you have by looking at the injector tops. Grey are 14's, orange are 19's, blue are 24's, brown are 36 low impedance, green are 42's...

So the tops, not the plastic body where the electrical connector plugs in to?

The originals were reddish and the 2.5's are grey bodied.

i have 3 brand new iac and tps sensors so im just gonna change them and see what happens oh and about the injectors my 2.3 in the ranger and the 2.3 in my mazda parts truck are red and the 2.5 ones are gray so i dont know which is which but i used my old 2.3 ones and just to clairify its not misfiring the idle is just extremley low when i come to a stop almost stalls the oil pressure guage bounces and so does the alt when its that low

I'd start with just the IAC and see if that takes care of it. One thing you can try when it is running is disconnect the IAC plug and see if the idle changes at all.

did that and the engine stalled
