so i got a great deal on a motor+tranny but its a 2.5l instead of my stock 2.3
what are things that need to be done to make this swap successful? My 2.3 is burning up a lot of oil and my tranny is leaking more and more. this motor seems to be clean and it sounded better than mine before we pulled it. is this swap going to be worth it or should i steal the tranny and sell the motor to look for a 2.3?

It'll work great if you want to do a full OBDII wiring swap along with it.

I'd recommend Plan B (find a 2.3 pre-96)

not a bad swap but if you want a quick swap, find a pre 95 2.3

Just as Earl43P stated. IMO I would look for a pre-96, they are plentiful in the salvage world.

if it were me I would stick the two blocks side by side, change over the front accessories to the point the stock wiring will work, get the crank sensor set up to work and use the stock wiring and computer since your '94 has a MAF it should be able to compensate for the increased airflow (displacement), I'm sure it would be possible to upgrade to the new setup but not sure it would be worth it. If you go that route I would go easy on it for a while and listen for pinging to allow the computer learn the proper fueling.

I agree, I'd go the easy route and find a pre 95 engine. I have a 95 and can assure you they are OBD-II, though most cars/trucks didn't have it until 1996, the Ranger is an exception.

eh im proly going sell it and look for a 2.3, since i got the both (motor and trans ) for 300 im just going to swoop the trans and sell th block to buy another 2.3... hope the one i have lasts a little longer

I could take the 2.5 off your hands were are you located

take the internals out of the 2.5 and put in your 2.3.Everything will work fine.

wow finally got one

ok so time went on and so did the oil burning and suffering, now i got a 2.3l from a 93 with only 103k for 550 shipped ! pm me if you want to know where ;) so is there anything i should expect when going to make my swap, also i have a 3" body lift and want to remove that at the same time/after anyone have experience doing this?

Actually, a lot of Fords did start it in 95. I have even seen a 93 or 94 T-bird that had the OBDII hookup.
