im thinking of getting a 2.5 motor for my ranger since its pretty much slide in and drive. i was wondering if any of you guys knew of any pistons to bump it up to about 11 to 1 compression. also thinking of a new cam and may do some port/polish work on the heads and bore the throttle body a little bit. any other suggestions? would the computer be functional with this swap? ive been told it is but still a bit weary. the only difference between the 2 is the stroke and fuel rail i guess.

the pistons/rods/cranks are different and will bolt into a 2.3 small main journal block. pop up pistons are not recommended for deck clearance issues, use thinner head gaskets or shave the head down for more compression. porting the engine and intake are your best bets from what i hear, but if you want real power most will suggest simply turboing the engine. it will get you more power than any n/a 2.3/2.5 build. i was looking into a 2.85 stroker build but idk thats a lot of dam money. if i had a mustang svo tall block id try the 3.0 stroker but thats the only block capable of doing that mod.

turbo is not an option. im trying to make the fastest 4cyl na ranger i possibly could will also be shaving a lot of weight when i choose my donor vehicle. probably a 93-97 stepside.

JE makes a nice piston.Wack the head about 80 thousandths and the block,20.Use a adjustable cam gear to get your cam back in line.Get a decent header,we use Schoenfeld.Do your porting, intake and head.Get a phase 2 cam.Use yellow or red top injectors.Makes a nice little motor.

how much tuning do you want to do? if your willing i can give you the links to everything to build the 2.85 stroker (it has to be done with .040 je pistons so the bore x stroke is 3.820 x 3.785, almost square so she should rev like crazy and produce gobs of power.)
