hey guys I'm Will and i'm new to the board. I have a 99 ranger 2.5l and the head taps. Me and my dad rebuilt it and it's gonna be my ride when i trn 16 next month. It's had this tap for 4 years appearently and we've replaced everything in the head. Lucky my dad and uncle run a shop and the got a totalled ranger with a 2.3 in it. my dad bought it off the guy real cheap and it's getting strppied down. I was wondering if the head will go right on to mine the my truck has a 3.780 bore in it and the 2.3l has a 3.780 bore in it as well. My truck however has a longer stroke about .3 inches longer. i doubt this will interfere but i was curious if these would jut bolt right onto each other.

thanks in advance.

what ive heard the 2.3 head will bolt on to the 2.5 with no problem, but has no provisions for the cam sensor needed on the 2.5 eng.

You have to use a post 95 2.3.They have a cam sensor

??????? The cam sensor is driven off of the oil pump pulley. Not the camshaft pulley. What year is the 2.3?

Allen

i'm not positive on the year of the 2.3l but if it has a cam sensor i'm good to go then?

thanks guys i appreciate it.

It has to be a post 95 head as they have diferent holes in them for the altenator/coil bracket.Sorry I didn't make myself clear on the cam sensor,I just meant it has to be a +95 engine.I also think the intake ports on the -95 heads are a little bigger.

my dad said the truck is a 97 and purs like a kitten so the head is coming off. i'm thinking about taking off the powersteering pump as well but i have a feeling it does that annoying whining too. anyone need the bottom end of a 2.3? lol

95-97 2.3 heads are basically the same as the 2.5 heads. The 2.5 heads are suppose to have a little bigger combustion chambers (lowering compression ratio) and are suppose to flow a little better than the 2.3 head, but i'm sure you won't notice any power differences.

And yes, i'm acutally looking for a good 2.3 short block. Where are you located?

Dang, too far away. I'm in Oregon.
I'm looking for a 2.3 to start my turbo build on....the search continues....

pay the shipping and i'll start unbolting. lol ya oregon is kinda far, also anyone on here i think the hood, doors, tail gate and bed are all in good shape. 3 aluminum wheels (one got bent in the wreck) seats, decent stock radio, motor, tranny, 120000 (i think)

well i know it's been awhile but we got teh head on the truck and are just waiting for a few parts. the torque sequence on these is rediculous and we broke a shallow and impact 13mm socket in the process. i think the last step of the sequence was kind of unecessary
