Well I've officially started building my 2.3t for my truck and am currently in the parts collecting phase...

Taking the block to the machine shop tomorrow just to be tanked and honed and hopefully I'll start reassembling this weekend!

I'm using an LA2 computer and large vam, and having ahell of a time coming up with a wiring harness for that so I was thinking of just using a 2.3 ranger harness and re-pinning since those are all over the place. But I was just wondering, if i'm going to be repinning and splicing anyways, why dont I just use my 2.9 harness? Is there any reason this would be significantly more difficult than a 2.3 harness? Just trying to keep my garage clutter free is all

It's best to use your existing harness, and make the necessary changes. You can get a Chilton's for each vehicle, or a copy of the wiring diagrams. I think there are pin outs in the tech section of this forum.:)shady

glad to see your starting... wut shop is honing your block? and how much are they charging?

coo... thats what i was bankin on. just wasn't sure if my 2.9 harness was much different from the 2.3.

I'm just using a local shop here in seattle. The owners actually my moms 2nd cousin, but they actually know each other and talk and stuff, so he's gunna hot tank it and hone it for 30 bones :yahoo:

awsome. maybe ill send my block out to you and u can have the same thing done for mine for a couple dollars :D . heh i have to see wut shops around here can do it for me for cheap...

machining is generall pretty cheap. That is, i was suprised the first time i ever got something machined, it was a lot cheaper than wahtever price i was imagining.

If you're not doing anything exotic it shouldnt be too bad, dont pay more than 20-25 per cylinder to have them bored out, or more than 10 per cylinder to have them honed. (You'll probably find it cheaper even). 30-50 is pretty standard for a hot tanking. And all that kind of stuff you can pretty much go with the lowest bidder because every shop does it.

If you're gunna start doing things like lightening and balancing your crank or crazy things like for example: my dad built a racing 292 straight six (chevy motor), and had 2 chevy small block heads shortened to 3 cylinders each, then welded together to make a 12 port head with exhaust and intake on opposite sides (major improvement since the stock head had a hybrid intake/exhaust manifold thats not good for keeping intake temps down). for THAT kind of stuff, deffinately go to a repudable race engine shop.

well i just wanna have my engine dipped and honed out.... general price on that?
