Hey everyone! I was searching around in the threads to find some info, but I didn't find what I needed, So Here's my thread.

I'm going to Turbo my 1994 2.3l sometime down the line. But for now I want to prepare it for the turbo. This is my daily driver so I can't really do things that will take full weekends or anything like that. I called a machine shop, that happens to be in the neighborhood, to get a price on a port/polish ($150). They said it was up to me on what to do. All I know is that I want the intake and exhaust opened up. I thought a port and polish was just done one way? What do I tell them I want done? I just want it to be able to handle 10-15psi, eventually. Are there some specs that i give them?

Port and polish jobs vary. Some are just to clean up the intake runner bowls around the valve where it goes thru the head, and polish the port, and maybe a gasket match with the intake manifold. A more extensive port job requires enlarging all the intake runners, polishing them, and the combustion chamber.

Unless you are going to race the truck at high rpm, leave the heads alone. If you do a port/polish you would also need to go to bigger valves. The turbo will supply all the air it needs at the levels you want to achieve. Use the money to buy forged pistons and a computer modification.

With that much boost, you might run into problems with the compression ratio of the head. The compression ratio of Ford 2.3 turbos is 8:1 to 8.5:1, and the newer engines are 9.5:1. This could cause the engine to get into detonation(pinging) which is very bad for a turbo engine.

I would suggest further research on the project before you start. There are several things you need to do for the modification. There is plenty of info on this site, and others.:) shady

If you really want to P&P you can do it yourself for less than $20...just don't take too much off...and make sure you buy some long reach grinders to get around the curve...

But, personallly, I'd just leave it like Shady says...and invest in some good forged pistons...then you can raise the boost up a bit higher to really make it worth your while...
