I currently have a carb'd 2.0L in my 1988 Ranger, and it started knocking. I have a line on a complete fuel injected 2.3L from a 1993 mustang. Is there any way I can swap the carb stuff onto the 2.3L to make it work in my Ranger? Could I just swap the head, oil pan, intake, and carb onto the 2.3L bottom end and run that? As much info as you can provide would be awesome!

I tried searching, but my internet is being super retarded today, so I'm countin' on you guys to PLEASE not ask me to search.

Thanks,
-Brandon

i had one of those motors in my '86, i think they are the same block with a different crank with a longer throw. is the 2.3 a dual spark plug. you can find early carbed 2.3's. the exhaust manifold will look the same, but has an egr tube you would have to block. im not sure if the intake manifolds will swap so you could keep the same head. but at the same time you can get a complete rebuild kit for you 2.0 for about $200 with pistons. those motors are pretty reliable, not enough power to hurt itself.

No, you can't swap the 2.0 intake onto that engine.

Yes, you can use the 2.0 head/intake/carb on the 2.3 bottom end. I'd suggest a valve job on the head while you have it apart.

Use a 2.3 head gasket and swap over the cam and followers from the 2.3 head. You probably will not be able to swap the 2.0 oil pan onto the 2.3 but, the Mustang pan should fit in the Ranger chassis without a problem. Also, you will have to either A.) swap over the auxilary drive shaft from the 2.0 and punch the hole/thread the bolt holes for the mechanical fuel pump or B.) add an electric fuel pump.
