has anyone ever built a glass pack for a 4 banger. the exhaust on my truck is a glass pack then straight pipe, an exits the truck right in front of the pass rear tire. i get tired of listening to it, so i am thinking about running one pipe or duals out the back. they will be homemade due to cost of having a muffler shop doing them. So if anyone has any ideas let me know

explain making a glasspack?

are you actually MAKING the muffler?

or just running tailpipes BEHIND the glasspack thats on it?

personally, mine sounded like a pissed off vtec with a glasspack on it.

a cherry bomb turbo would be so much better.

but whatever suits your needs.

it will be a little quieter and have more sound, if you can call that sound lol

ha yah a pissed off weed eater. yes i have thought about leaving the glass pack and splitting off of that but i have also wanted to run something different. i had cherry bombs a 57 chevy with a 350 in it and it sounded good, not your typical dual exhaust sound.

on a v8 glasspacks sound great.

not so much on a l4, magnaflow of a turbo muffler bout the only choices ya got without sounding like a pissed off yellow jacket.

I put a dynomax super turbo exhaust on mine sounded stock till I did intake work its not loud and I dont think you can really get a mean sound out of the 4 banger I noticed a little torque but thats prolly because my old exhaust had a hole a rat could fit in. Got the exhaust for around 100bucks when summit was running a special but I had to buy the intermediate pipe from napa

I have a glass pack on my 2.3 88 supercab, it dumps out right below the side glass on the super part, sounds really really sick, but not as bad as the one down the road with a split header on a 2.3 and runner duels through glass packs out the back.

on my 97 2.3 Ranger I had it straight-piped right after the cat y-piped into duals before the rear, and straight out the back. Best sounding 2.3L I've ever heard personally, didn't drone in the cab at all either, had a nice crackle when downshifting, that was my favorite part :) got the y-pipe right out to dual chrome tips off a wrecked ranger in the yard for 40 bucks, can't beat that

I wanted to resurrect this because I need to get an intermediate pipe. I am looking at the DYNOMAX system which is 2.25" according to summit racing. What intermediate pipe did use???

Another resurrection for a good cause..

Get the longest glasspack you can fit after the cat to mellow out the rice..

If you want to know what the stock pipe was, go to apexhaust.com, and grab the (huge!) pdf catalog file for your truck. Look your year/eng up in it. My 89 2.9 needed the "Mid Exhaust Pipe". AP Exhaust #28216. $40.96. AP Exhaust is, according to my CarQuest, Federated, and AutoZone contacts, the original manufacturer and is the stock replacement folks. Hope it helps.
