2.3 wont idle,have to keep it above 1700...

cranks right up....revs to 1500 + ...comes down and stalls out..cranks right back up..........same thing.........
have to brake tqe. it at a stop light to keep it from stalling out...
88 2.3 auto 2 wheel drive

thanks for any help.........dont want to throw $$ at this thing...only have $380 in the whole truck..........lol

Could pssibly be your idle air control motor, take it of and inspect/clean it. If worse comes to worse just adjust the idle set screw.

If the engine makes power then, yes, the IAC is a good first look. If not, then check the ignition timing and timing belt.
