Hey everyone, has anyone ever swapped in a carbed 2.3 turbo from the 79-81 pintos and mustangs into a ranger? I have an 84 2.0 5 speed ranger id like to swap with a 2.3 turbo. Thanks!!

I would check at Mustang forums for more info on those swaps

Its not really a "vehicle" model thing as far as what needs to be done

Mustang owners were more likely to do a turbo swap than Ranger owners who usually swapped in larger engines

Yeah, I think the carbed turbo engines were more rare and finding one would probably be harder than the fuel injected ones that aren't exactly easy to find anymore... Plus I've heard carburetors and turbos don't really go together very well unless you pressurize the whole assembly.

Theres a few ways to make carbs and turbos coexist.

A box to encase the carb shouldn't be too terribly hard to fab up, there might be "universal" boxes out there already.

Could run a draw through setup, with the carb BEFORE the turbos compressor inlet.. but that requires a turbo that has seals that will hold up to being doused in gas all the time.

And theres always the option of having the carb either sent out to be converted to be a blow through carb, or converting it one's self. I don't think converting a carb to blow through is too overly complicated.. a big part of it is installing floats that won't collapse under boost... what else is necessary.. I'm not sure.
