I just recently bought a '92 ranger 4cyl 5spd, Blue Lapis poly. very little rust considering its age, with 117,000 miles on it. I'm somewhat familiar with the 2.3 4cyl, I have a '83 cougar with a modded 306 going into it, as well as a '01 CVPI. I traded my old '78 Bronco for the ranger. the bronco had a sweet 400 with a 4bbl, but the body had too much body work for my liking. I had a '77 F150 6cyl 4x4 before that which I sold.
Anyways I was wondering is there a throttle body from another engine that'd add more power? or how about a '98? style 2.5 intake? Or is there any cams that will work with the stock computer? I have 19lb injectors *in search for a Mass air flow sensor* I'm gonna do the IAT mod. The exhaust has an aftermarket cat, and I'll be putting stacks on it *Yeah go ahead and laugh...I am!* I'm not ready for turbo yet, need to get my cougar finished first.
Any input, or refferals to other posts are appreciated.

Here we go again, lol. Where is Levi?

Putting in some lower gears will give you better acceleration....

what are the gears usually? 3.08? I haven't been underneath to see if the tag is there, and LOL I read the last 2.3 mods post...maybe a sticky post with stuff that can be done besides turbo would be good. there might be one, but I didn't notice.I'm just experimenting with the truck. I know you can't make too much power out of a 4cyl without forced-induction, or cube increase. I also drive a 2.5 ranger at work *needs a TUNE-UP BAD* it's a little sluggish, but the 2.2 sonoma is the worst. didn't know if the 2.5 intake was a better design.

um, its an old small displacment 4 banger. Juss drive it lol, your not going to get any more power out of it, short of a shot of nitros' or some forced induction.

I'll just do the mods that I already have the crap for, haha I think I have 4.10s kicking around now that I think of it...maybe the turbo down the road...winter project. I'm used to my '78 bronco that'd throw ya out the back window.

= Anyways I was wondering is there a throttle body from another engine that'd add more power?
No, nothing is a bolt on and you would only gain maybe 1hp on an unmodified engine.

or how about a '98? style 2.5 intake?
99% sure it won't bolt on correctly.

Or is there any cams that will work with the stock computer?
Most all of the mild-med aftermarket cams will work. You'll have to either pony up the cash for a roller one or swap your follwers for the older 'slider' style.

I'm gonna do the IAT mod.
Waste of time, money and gas.

that's what I was looking for...real answers. no offense to others that put thier 2 cents worth in
