Like I said in my only other post I'm just a kid trying to learn. I don't mind asking stupid questions. Just don't make me feel stupid with the answers lol.

I was surfing Ford websites and found some info on transmission gearing. I am trying to build my '97xlt into a high mileage truck. It does pretty good now with the M5OD 5 speed it has, but a taller 5th gear would be nice. I found this on some site (vibrasoft???) and it says the M5OD for the 5.0's has a taller 5th gear. Cool, but can I swap it in behind my 2.3? Is there an adapter plate or kit to do this? I know it's a 2.3 Mustang but isn't it basically the same block as the 2.3 Ranger?

M5OD 3.97 2.34 1.46 1.00 0.79 (Mustang 2.3L)
M5OD 3.35 1.93 1.29 1.00 0.68 (Mustang 5.0L)

Like I said, I don't mind asking stupid questions, but I don't mind getting my hands dirty either. If this swap is possible, point me in the right direction and I'll give it a try. Even if I have to go and pull a trans from the junkyard, modify it and then swap it in. Thanks

p.s. the high mileage part of it is that I want to save my money to build a street ranger someday. Any money I don't have to spend on gas goes into the "fun fund". Also when I graduate I will probably go to the junior college 50 miles away.

The M50D-R2 used behind the 4.9 & 5.0 engine in F-series trucks is physically larger in every dimension.

In essence the versions used in the Ranger/Explorer are a 7/8-Scale version of the F-150 transmission.

Also in many instances taller gears are the wrong way to go

The Transmission used in a Mustang with a 2.3, 3.8 or 5.0 is a Borg Warner built
trans that uses a Cable clutch and thus is entirely useless for a ranger.

Also Rangers typically come with larger diameter tires and that affects the
overall gearing calculation.

The info is out there on how to swap a mustang t5 in a ranger

Three things.

1) This thread has been dead since March.

2) That is so not the point.

3) That was not particularly helpful.

Just because it is dead for 3 montha doesn't mean someone wont look at that and wonder. Im just trying to clear up a bad post. The info is on rps and trf. No need to be a dick about it either. I didnt see you fixing the wrong info posted.
