It's an '87 2.3 EFI, long bed 4x4 that I use JUST for offroading. The head gasket is shot, so I need to tear off the head right now and fix that. I'm not sure if I want to do an engine swap this winter yet.

Are there some good cheap mods that I can do, to get a little more low end out of this engine while I have the top end apart? It has some other problems, but I'm not sure if they are HG related or not just yet, so I figured I'd start with replacing the gasket. Runs ok for the most part though. Is this a good, solid engine to get some decent power out of? Or am I better off saving the cash, and swapping the engine out?
