on an 89 2.3 4 cylinder super cab 4x4 with 33's what gearing would you recomend to make it go 65 mph on the highway, and perform offroad great. but still have close to the natural mpg. now i know that with 33's the mpg's will be worse. but ive heard that by regearing your mpg's can get better do to less stress on the engine.

so any ideas

4 banger/4wd supercab.....5.13's! Low power, high weight and rolling resistance. The over gearing will give you the power to push them around and the lower load on the engine will give you better mileage as the engine isn't always lugging. I used to get better mileage in 4th on the hwy right at 65mph then in 5th with 3.73's and 33's simply because I didn't have the power to turn them efficiently at lower rpms.

right right that makes sence, i was thinkin something in the 5.xx but wasnt sure what to go for.

so any sites to look on or special axles to look for that have 5.13's?

ive seen advertisements but cant remember the names.

not to be a pain but that page only has gearing for years 90+ or is it the same thing. and whats the difference between normal rotation and reverse rotation?

thanks for all the info and help.

Older then 90' ran a D28, newer 'usually' had a D35 but not always. A TTB D35 is reverse rotation/high pinion/amboid gear set, while a 98'+ A arm truck has a normal roatation/low pinion/hyphoid gear set.

4.56's or 4.88's.
I wouldn't go any higher then that unless you plan to run a tire over 35".

I'm running 4.10's with 32's and my truck has more then enough power. I'm sure weight/displacement makes a difference but who knows, my truck only has 0.2L more then yours.

Wait, where did you find a Supercab 2.3 4x4?

The 1st and 2nd gen super cabs aren't that rare. My mom has a 92 2.3 super cab. The 4x4 2.3's are kinda rare, especially with the extended cab.

The 3rd and 4th gen 4cyl truck are rare, I wish mine was a super cab. :annoyed:

glad someone asked this, i planed on asking when i had money lol. i knew id need to regear my junk to make me 2.3 happy but sheeeesh

Wait, where did you find a Supercab 2.3 4x4?

i found it on craigslist with a rebuilt 2.3 for 650 its been sanded down so im gonna get that camo krylon paint. its even got manual t-case, which excites me

around here you always find ford rangers for under a grand with like fuel pumps that need to be installed, and they already have the pump, or needs battery. always something cheep and simple

Can you check the VIN to verify the 2.3 is original? I was under the impression ford never made a 2.3 supercab 4x4. We have several 2.3 4x4s, one of them is a long bed but never seen one with a supercab.

the dude said that he dropped the 2.3 and tranny into a supercab i think he said 2.9

but heres another question, my mom has 97 a 2.3 2wd 5 speed standard cab, if i decide to regear this with 4.10's, do i gotta do front and rear? or just the rear. i was thinkin both
