Hi i have a 1991 2wd regular cab ranger with a 2.3 and a auto trans. The truck is all stock with around 140,000 miles. I checked my mileage the other day and was very disappointed to find that i was only getting 16mpg this seams low being that both my other rangers get 20-25mpg with a 4.0 and a 3.0 and both of them are 4x4. i know that part of the problem is that the poor 2.3 with an auto cant get out of its own way but the mpg should be higher than that.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks

Should be much better. Mine has same amount of miles, only it's a 5 spd, and I get usually at least 24mpg (that's a mix of hwy and city, more like 27 hwy). Check the usual stuff: spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc. Maybe run some injector cleaner (some people say that stuff doesn't work, I'm indifferent).

I had an 84 2.3 2wd auto and it never got more than 20mpg. My brother's girlfriend's parents had a 95 or 96 that my brother drove a good bit and it seemed horrible on gas as in like 14-16 range.
