I have a 1996 Ford Ranger XLT. It's 2.3L 5-speed manual. It is stock everything except a small exhaust tip i bought at Wal-Mart for $12. I want to make my truck louder but i dont want to blow my wallet on it. And when i mean louder, i dont care if it sounds like a jet engine. I dont really wanna kill my gas mileage or hurt back pressure. But i will if i have to.

you couldnt possibly make that truck sound like a jet engine if you tried.

nothing you do to the exhaust is going to effect gas mileage, "backpressure", or power short of crimping the end shut.

if you want loud, cut the muffler off and buy a $5 90-degree bend to dump it out the passanger side. just dont leave it dumped under the truck like people will invariably suggest.

:icon_thumby: +1 If you leave it rught under the cab especially. 1. The interior noise from when I did this literally causes headaches. 2. In winter, condensation can freeze on things that you definitely dont want frozen. 3. Heat can screw up the shocks, brake lines, etc. 4. the soot-ish residue on everything will really piss you off too. 5. Carbon monoxide seeping into cab causes death in most mammals.

So i should chop off the muffler and everything back, then route it out from under the passenger door?

or would a glasspack in place of the muffler be better?
