Sounds like your ICM (Ignition Control Module) is on the fritz.

However, take an ohmeter and check the resistance of the coils. If they aren't in spec, they sound like they need replaced. To do this, get a Haynes manual--the specs are listed in the "Engine: Electrical" section.

Does the truck throw any CEL codes at you?

If your coils are good, then I'd think it's time to replace the ignition module.

What was the exact code, and what did you use to get it from your ECU?

The only code I could find in the Haynes Manual I have is a "code 12--cannot control RPM during Self-Test high RPM check."

this is the "blip" test, at a point in the self test, (engine running) there is one flash on the "engine light", this is to tell you to "blip" the throttle so the ECM can check the IAC and other things, if you don't "blip" it sets code 12.....

TFI is the stand alone ignition module that runs the EDIS coil packs. Its mounted on the intake, they go bad often.

By the way, what I referred to the ICM is the TFI...two terms meaning the same thing, lol...:)
