I posted about this a while ago but this is an update. I have a 1992 2.3 dual plug ranger that misses terribly and and has trouble starting. Sometimes while driving or idling it will just start running right, spins like a top, but never fails to go back to missing bad again. I've changed icm, coil packs, spark plugs, o2 sensor, computer, MAF is clean, throttle body looks clean, egr checks out, fuel pressure is good and it will always start and most of the time eventually runs right. But I'm clueless.

IDK much about ranger i know a little I've been getting help from alot of members especially Tomw and RonD they know alot about these trucks. What it sound like may be out of timing skipped are tooth or so could be a back crank position sensor, again my knowledge is not to great so I would wait till some other members chime in.

I would suggest using a VOM to check the condition of your spark plug wires. I think about 1K ohms per foot is ballpark. If you get infinite or LO, get some new wires.
I had some I was sure were in good condition that caused intermittent bucking and misfire, then things would clear up and it would run fine. Some were bad. Replaced with the old set from the basement... viola. Back to normal. Ordered a closeout set from Rock.
