i have and 87 ranger fi that the motor went. found a carbed 2.3 in the junkyard and wanted to make sure all i have to change is my intake manifold and the valve cover cause the one thats on it has the cap in the back. and put a cover on the manual fuel pump hole.

That should be it. Cap off your fuel pump. Is your EFI motor a TFI? If so just swap everything over, and good luck.

not sure if it's tfi. havent even checked. i know i have to block the manual fuel pump off. need to know where i can find a plate tho. i figured i'd just have to change the intake manifold and valve cover and that'd be about it. just making sure

there's a blocking plate on your '87, even my '90 had a block off plate...

it should be doable, if you can get them both out of the truck at the same time swap parts from one to the other

thats what im going to do. while it's out im going to put new valave cover and pan gasket on it. cap rotor wires and plugs. water pump thermostat and intake gaskets. might as well get it done now.

I'd do timing belt and clutch too if it's doable, definetely timing belt...

also front and rear main seals, if the cam on the '87 is in ok shape and is a roller, put that in the new engine...
