I'm getting close to needing an engine in the Fordzuki, and I've got a donor for it, a 97 Mazda with the 8 spark plug 2.3, with a m50d five speed behind it. The problem is, the trans won't fit in the zook, because it's longer than the tk4 that's in it now, and there is no room to reconfigure.

So basically the question is, can I use the tk4 that's on the '78 2.3 on the '97 2.3? Is the flywheel the same? Ie, can I just bolt a
new tk4 clutch to the '97 2.3 flywheel? I assume the bellhousing pattern is the same. Anything I'm not thinking of?

Edit: Maybe this should have been in the trans section, but it's a 2.3 swap, that's why I put it here.

it's all the same, and the '98 will be a 2.5

actually, just mix and match the clutch parts and find the best of what you have, it should work...

Upon looking at it further tonight, it looks to me like the tk4 is only 4 inches shorter than the mazda trans, so I'm thinking I may be able to scoot the motor forward those 4 inches, and the only worries would be the pan and front diff, since the radiator is in the rear. It would be nice to have 5th gear on some of the flatter trails too. :D
