i have an 85 ranger 2.3 4*2 with a bad m5r1 and i found a toyo kogyo5 in a 89 2.9 are the input shafts the same size or no

I think you have it backwards, your '85 should have the TK5, the '89 2.9L most likely is a M5OD-R1 (assuming 2WD).

However, the bellhousings between a 2.3 and 2.9 are not the same, so that pretty much makes whether the input shaft itself is the same or not a moot point.

it did have a tk5 in it but that blew i did a swap from a scrap yard but the m5r1 that they gave me makes some noise in 5th gear and they only have yard credit problem is they only have 2.9s the one i looked under had the tk5 in it it had the ribbed cover on the bottom but thanks for the reply

the bell housing from your old 4 cyl tk5, if you still have it, should swap onto the 6 cyl tk5 or get a v6 mazda trans and use the guts to fix yours, one from a 2.9 would be best as the gear ratios are the same
