So been kickin around the ideal of building a more off road rig. I have a few bIIs laying around, so why not. been kicking around the ideal of a using a 2.3 and building a bit, and run some deep gearing about like the jeep/yota guys.

So I have found a 97 2.3 4x4 truck, 5spd manual t case. Will this trans/t case handel the built motor, and 37's going to use a 44/9 combo, 5.?? gears mabey deeper have not really thought on it.

It should handle it, just dont speed shift the M5OD, they dont like it. 538 gears in the axles, doubler if you want to rock crawl and youll be good...

As a fellow 2.3 owner (though Duratec) I'd like to see this build. I'm not 100% certain, but hopefully someone will chime-in and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that you can take the guts from an M5OD-R1HD (all but the input shaft), and swap them into your M5OD-R1 case, and get a better/stronger trans that bolts up to your I4. Again, hopefully someone can confirm this for me.
