so I'm half planing out a 2.8 swap into my carbureted 2.3 that is already duraspark. what I'm thinking is that my truck is basically ready for a duraspark converted 2.8 right? just change out the bell housing and bolt it in i hope. since its already duraspark i don't need to do any wiring to the truck right?

If you do this, be sure to get a bellhousing with an internal slave due to in 85 they converted over to that. I did this swap and found out that there was a huge difference in designs for the clutches. Nothing a little research can't help out with.

ya i know bout the trans already, I'm using a fm146, cut holes in the side of a 4cylinder tk5 trans for the slave cyl, and bolted it up. now for a v6 i can just put the original bell housing back on the fm146. I'm just wondering if there's going to be any problems with the wiring sense my trucks got duraspark, but it was a 4cylinder set up.

just plug in the dizzy and go you may need to switch the sending units for the guages or extend the wires, and the alternator looks like it wires in the same also just two wires.

Sorry you will need to figure out the alternator thing maybe you can swap the one with the internal regulator on to the 2.8 not sure about that.

You might be able to just switch the pully's on the alternators and be good.

I have done this swap, and its like you said swap bellhousing, make sure you have the duraspark dizzy for the 2.8, most of the 2.8's that i have ever worked on do not have internal regulaters on the alt so should be fine there, the only other thing i have ran into thats not listed is you may have to swap motor mounts. 2.8's use there own silly kind

Sorry about that. Ya I had to drill a hole in my driverside engine crossmember for it to work, other then that, all went smooth. I'm running the original tk4 tranny that oringinaly had an 83 2.3 carbed then a 87 FI 2.3 and now my 2.8.

Glad to hear you got it switched over.
